From SAHM to WAHM – 12 ways to start your business

The day to go back to work is just around the corner and you are not ready to leave your baby just yet. You might consider staying at home but then money can be an issue. I started to work while I was still at home with my boys because I needed to do something that is not related to poop and baby food. I adore my children, of course, and I was very content with my new mother-role in the first 2 years. And then I just needed more.

And it is OK. It is OK to express yourself on a new level.

from SAHM to WAHM

Here are my tips how you can begin and how to change your life forever. (No affiliate links in this article at all. Just sayin’.)

1.

You can choose a well-established company. There are many many companies like this, it is called direct sale. They sell kitchenware, courses, cosmetics, aromatherapy oils and the list is almost endless. (Find an article with a huge list here on the workathomewoman page!)

You buy a starter kit and you get all the guidance you need. This is exactly what Francesca did and so created her own business, #themadeupmummy. She is very happy and her success gives her confidence a real boost every single day!

2.

Another direct sale opportunity that you could try, if you fancy cute nails, is Jamberry. Kirstie started with selling products and now she is working towards a nail tech diploma. You will find lovely photos on her Instagram account @kikkisnailsuk.

3.

Getting a license in a specialised area can be a wonderful adventure! It depends on the field of your interest and expertise. Tara, for example, runs The Daisy Foundation Derby and Belper: Derbyshire and offers antenatal support to several local families!

4.

There are MLM (multi-level marketing) businesses, such as Forever Living Products that Alice chose (her business is Aloe Alice) or Arbonne. Have I mentioned Chloe’s business yet? She has a health and wellness business with Arbonne: Live what you love. You can also get a franchise business. You might need a few pennies to start, though.

5.

Are you exceptionally talented and would like to create jewellery? Why not? Katie works with her husband and they dream these amazing beauties together! The Flash Jordan Jewellery makes bespoke metal jewellery and corporate gifts. Do you have a small workshop already? Start your planning now!

6.

Check out Bel’s business, ask her how she started! She found her own niche and created the Yogaberries and her dream came true. She teaches yoga to babies and children. Is this something you would love to do?

7.

Are you organised and do you love structure? With just a very little investment you can become a virtual assistant! You will need to learn a lot, educate yourself before you start supporting businesses but this is normal, it is the same in every business. You won’t start it blind. I know a qualified VA who has several years of experience in administration and projects. Her name is Sarah and she started the Banks’ Business Solutions from scratch. Today she is a successful mompreneur who has to outsource some of her tasks and she is already hiring! I am pretty sure you can get there, too!

8.

I am not into the details and I hate monotone work. I would not cope well with physical products, the administration, delivery and all sort of things that are required when you run a shop. But there are people who are just simply great with it! Ecoroos is a great example, Paulina created a magical world around her Ecoroos family and their webshop is very popular.

9.

I love the versatility of writing, so I run blogs (yes, you can make money with blogs) and I write books, I help WAHMs with their digital content. Being a copywriter is a great way to work from home and dive into intellectual freedom. Or is there anything you love and could teach? Imagine you move to the beautiful Tenerife and you teach English or writing online. hhmm….

10.

Become a photographer! Check out Jenny’s page, Indigo and Violet Photography, to see how she started. Her photos are amazing, she is very talented. Do you think you could do this, too? Do you have the passion for art? Calculate the costs of the equipment and consider the possibilities how to train yourself. Talk to Jenny or book a session with her.

11.

Are you crafty? You can make small gifts or any handmade beauty. Just like Andrea! She creates lovely decorations that nobody can resist to buy! How is it even possible? You only need a needle and jump into it! Pöttöm Design is now growing and expanding into the European Market, and she really started with one small piece of nursery decoration.

What is your dream job?

Have you ever noticed how quick the time passes when you do your hobby? When you sew that new pattern or when you cut that last piece of thread. Time flies when you finally finish that necklace or design that pallet. It is like yoga. Yoga means that you exist in the present. You de-clutter your mind and you focus on being. This is exactly how you feel when you do that one very important activity. You are content. You are happy.

what is your dream job blog post illustration.png

Would you be content and happy for living? Would you mind doing something that makes you happy and calm and still get money for it? Hmmmm wait, I think this is called success.

Are you successful? Or are you only full of material values, money, nice cars… is it something you are after? Well, in fact, we do not have much in common then.

creativeSuccess is not money. Not for me. Success is when you are full of energy, you are happy just because you love your life, you love every inch of it. You love every segment of your daily work and you would never change it. Success is when you have time to have a decent breakfast every morning and have a lovely chat with your family at the dinner table. Every single day. You do how you please and you live how you have always dreamt. I am already successful. I am already free. I am happy. I am paid to be so.

Is it easy to follow your dreams? Yes. And No. Yes, because you only have to start with one single thing: doing. No, because it is awfully scary. But worth it.

Do you think you could take the first step?

I think I have a great plan for you! My job starts when you decide to dare to dream.

Big hugs,

Mariann Hornyák

What is a discovery session and why is it completely FREE?

What is a discovery session and why is it completely FREE?

Imagine, you are in the grocery shop and you notice that beautiful piece of cucumber on the shelf. It is calling you, telling you how wonderful you are, begging you to take it home. You can go there, touch it, feel it, smell it. You can even taste it if you want. What I mean is that you will know what you buy. You know that the cucumber must smell like this and if it is not up to your expectations, you leave it. You have the chance to choose between cucumbers and pick the one that smells better. nyilak merre hope chance

You cannot do this when you apply for services. While you know that the guy who repairs dishwashers should come out and will use a few tools, might replace this or that and will work until your machine works perfectly well.

And what happens when you need somebody to give you advice? What about consultants? What about coaches? How will you know if they are the right cucumber for you?

This is our biggest challenge, to be honest. We know we smell good but we cannot really prove it. We know we can change your business numbers, we can bring you success or even make a difference in your life. We can only prove it if we get a chance at least one single time and someone hires us, trusts us and then tells others. You will don’t know until you try.

This is why most of us offer a free discovery session, a take-in session to see whether we fit together or not. The first consultation is about to see what you need from us and what we can offer to solve your problem. It is free because we don’t know in advance how it will work out. Being an advisor is not like selling cucumbers.

We, consultants, coaches, want to know what happens to you after we talked, our way of guiding you will change your life. The grocery guy wants to sell you high-quality cucumber but it is not his business what you do with that veggie after all. I want to know how you perform. I want to know what you do with my plans and suggestions, and if you do not follow my instructions, you will not get the desired result.

startup-594091_640

If I see that you are not willing to work with me, I will not take you. After the first session, I will gently send you away. Because I cannot take responsibility for something that is not dependent on me. This is why I do not take any payment before we commit to our common plans and goals. But how would you know what I can offer before you tell me what you need? You see now. I do not sell cucumber.

This is why I encourage everyone to contact me, talk to me, ask questions. I am not selling anything and you are not obliged to take a second session or opt in for anything.

If you have a dream to talk through, come on! and give me a call, message me here on my Facebook page.

My vision board

… or dream board…

I share a secret with you now. This is so personal. I have dreams that I have not yet shared with anyone here.

This is how it started: I was dreaming about the sea and a life that allows me to spend ALL my time with the ones I love. I was dreaming about feeling healthy and pretty and actually look good in that damn sexy bikini. For too long it was just a dream.

One day I felt it is time and started to think about the “how to” part, so the planning began.

I discovered how to cheat my brain and how visualizing my success would lead me to actual success. I created a vision board, or dream board. I collected pictures, I find the best words that expressed what I wanted to achieve. I did a plan to calculate how much money I need, what I must do, what the steps are and I put these on the board. I have a plan to follow to make my dream happen and become true.

I love my vision board. So easy to create one, if you understand the logic behind it.

I recommend this book, it is brilliant.

What I did was easy. I printed pictures about the beach where I wanted to live, I printed a picture of myself (I was not brave enough to do it in a bikini), I picked a photo of my extremely handsome husband and put the numbers and words on a board along with the photos.
So, what do you want to achieve in your business or in your life?

What is your biggest challenge?

WARNING: You will need pen and paper to read this article! So before you sit down, prepare them, please.

When I ask business owners what their biggest challenge is, 8 out of 10 says: Time Management. And they say it without thinking.

money vs time

money vs time

They know it.

They also know how to do it better. They know all the tricks. They just cannot change.

Are you one of them?

Are you the one who is always busy but not effective? Who keeps forgetting what must be done?

Do you know what the reason is behind this? Habits. Bad habits.

And what is behind good time management? Habits. Good habits.

If you really want to change and give your business a chance to grow or keep feeding you at least, do one little thing now.

List all your habits that you have in relation with your work. Everything. Social media, television, post-its everywhere, chatting on the phone, distractions. I know you just nod your head now, but what if you really give a chance to it? What if you take that 5 minutes NOW and get a paper and a pencil. I wait. Go and get it.Hand_Writing_Small

So, you listed your bad habits that keep you away from your success. Now pick one. Only one. The one that annoys you the most! Let’s say it is that you get lost on your Facebook news feed too often. So, now find a solution. A good habit. For example, when you sit down to your computer, you close ALL your social media platforms. ALL of them. You can access your browser but not until you finished your excel sheet with the admin. Or whatever you must working on.

Apply this single one good habit every day.

Keep your list with the bad habits. And move on to the next one in one or two weeks time.

This is the only way that you will start it.

  • Create good habits.
  • Create a lifestyle.
  • Decide how you want to live.

You can blame others. But if you look into your heart and you truly listen, you will admit that it is all up to you.

I am telling this with my best intention. Because I believe in you. I believe that you can do it.

Pick one bad habit now and change it. It will give a fantastic boost to your life and business.

Take care and let me know how it goes,

Mariann

How to USE your network – 8 tips

It will be short, so have an espresso this time rather than a big cuppa. Enjoy reading!

Are you member of a networking group? For what reason did you join? What was in your head when you clicked ‘apply’? Is this a free group or do you pay a yearly or monthly fee? If yes, how much? A few hundreds per month or per year? Or just a few pounds per month?

Do you spend much time there? Do you use that group? What do you get for your time and for your money?

8 Leadership Qualities That Really CountLots of questions, I know.

So here is a list of ideas what your networking group can do FOR YOU!

  • meeting like-minded people – great to have a tea with someone who understands what I am talking about.
  • getting discounts from members – wonderful, do Christmas shopping without problem.
  • promoting each other’s business pages – spreading the word, their friends might be your ideal client.

These are great but is this enough? There must be more in this!

And then you can do all these for them, right? Because the golden rule of networking is: Give five times, ask once! Share, comment, like, recommend, promote and invite. You do it first, then expect it back.

What else can a networking group do for you? (and you for them?)

T.E.A.M.

T.E.A.M.

  • skill-swap – you can get your eyebrow waxed in return for a few cards. Connect with those who offer services that you would use anyway.
  • team-up – have a shared giveaway! You sell deli, she sells boxes, promote your products together!
  • link your services or products – do you offer training, invite a 20 minutes office massage in the lunch break so you add fantastic value to your product. Or if you run a place for kids then team up with a nanny or crafter to do extra classes together.
  • delegate the job – you take beautiful photographs, others have fantastic copy writing skills, so combine them, work on each other’s website or blog weekly. Add value, add extra content to the pages.
  • post on Facebook for each other – some  people have more time to do social media and are more skilled. Others cannot really get there to post weekly. So offer something for each other! You can find the businesses around you who are linked to yours and you can have a common social media campaign or you can just run your platforms together by adding each other as admin.

birth of ideasBeing in a networking group means that you are not alone to do the job. You have lots of people around you to share with. You all save time, you all save money. You inspire each other and you will feel so much more creative and open.

Connect, share and enjoy! This is networking. And this is just the basic level.

See you soon for a cuppa,

Mariann

Make more TIME

time-managementThey say it is not about having more time – it is about making more time. Time management can be really difficult for some people and they often feel really busy but if they try to list what they actually achieved, it does not sound much. If you feel always busy and your thoughts keep you awake at night, you may need to learn a bit more about how to manage your time efficiently.

I found several articles on this topic and while they sound all so practical and useful, it is not easy to follow their advice.

Here is a good one: http://www.lifehack.org/articles/productivity/10-ways-improve-your-time-management-skills.html

This article is useful for mothers who work from home: http://www.blogclarity.com/8-time-management-tips-for-work-at-home-moms/

A mind map art  about time management: http://www.mindmapart.com/time-management-mind-map-paul-foreman/

What do you think? What could be the benefit of having more time? Would you just simply work more? How could you make more time for yourself?

Save time on Social Media – NOW

social mediaI was reading about time management a lot recently because I am planning materials for a group coaching session. I had to realize that almost everyone recommends that we should avoid social media. It can be distracting, time sucker and you easily spend your day checking profiles and reading articles. At the end of the day you feel so busy but in fact you did not do anything efficient.

But what if you actually work on Facebook for instance? You plan your marketing there, your target audience is on Facebook and you cannot really avoid it?

It can be a good idea that you do not log into Facebook at all. And even if you do, you keep your time tracked. You can use a count-down so you are more conscious. This is an example for an online stop watch/count down but you can use an offline version, too.

How to connect with your audience then? Try some apps like Pages or Groups, so you can even uninstall Facebook app from your phone or tablet.

How to manage your posts on more platform?

social media apps

social media apps

You can use PostPlanner or other “social media tools like TweetDeck, Co Tweet, Sprout Social, HootSuite and others have become widely adopted. They are a great asset for managing your social media presence across multiple platforms and accounts. The main benefit of using these tools is they make managing social media much more convenient.” (Read here more about why they might not work well on Facebook)

A little more insight what these applications are can be read over here on the Shonali Burke Consulting Inc website: Why Buffer, HootSuite and Post Planner are the Holy Trinity of Managing Social Media

And how much is too much? Have a look at this info-graphic to see how many posts/day are effective. http://www.adweek.com/socialtimes/social-media-post-frequency/615992

For your personal page you can categorize your connections. Facebook gives you the opportunity to follow or unfollow people. To set if you want to be notified about their activities or if they are your close friends, friends or acquaintances. When ever you post something, you can decide who will see it. This way you are in control of what people can see and what comes up in your news feed.

So now you have more free time to do more. What are you going to use it for?

Mariann
